DAY 1: PANARI HOTEL, NAIROBI
Nairobi
Situated along the Nairobi River in beautiful Kenya, the capital of Nairobi is East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city. It serves as an excellent starting point for African safari trips around Kenya. Nairobi is Africa’s 4th largest city and is a vibrant and exciting place to be. There are some fascinating attractions: its cafe culture, unbridled nightlife, the National Museum, the Karen Blixen Museum and most notably, just 20 minutes from the city centre, wild lions and buffalo roam in the world’s only urban game reserve. Make sure you pay a visit to the elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for a once in a lifetime experience.

Situated in the magnificent Aberdare Highlands, northeast of Nairobi, Aberdare is an amazing highland safari area featuring mountains, lush forests and steep ravines teeming with the best of Africa’s varied wildlife including the majestic elephant and rhino. This area is made up of the Abedare Mountain Range, which forms part of the eastern side of the Great Rift Valley as well as a vast savanna covered moorland plateau. The sheer natural beauty of Abedare has placed it on the UNESCO World Heritage list and draws visitors from all corners of the globe.

The Aberdare Country Club, only a two and a half hour drive northeast from Nairobi, is nestled on a slope of Mweiga Hill in the Aberdare Highlands, part of the Great Rift Valley. This captivating site was the homestead of an English couple that decided to settle in Kenya. Almost a half century later, their home, “The Steep”, was renamed the Aberdare Country Club and opened for guests. Considered a heritage property in Kenya, The Aberdare Country Club has retained the charm of a private home with the simple comforts of a country inn.

DAY 3: SAMBURU SOPA LODGE, SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE
Samburu National Reserve
Set on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River and neighbouring the Buffalo Springs National Park, Samburu National Reserve is characterised by a spectacular landscape of rugged hills, undulating plains and riverine forests. The park is home to abundant wildlife including a variety of rare species such as the reticulated giraffe, the long-necked gerenuk, Somali ostrich, Grevy’s Zebra, and Beisa Oryx. Visitors can also enjoy spotting over 900 elephants, a variety of predators, and over 450 bird species. The ancient culture of the Samburu people is still alive here, and it is possible to see two unique customs firsthand. In the first, watch as herds of cattle respond to each man’s individual voice as they call. In the second, see the tribesmen perform incredible dances that go back hundreds of years.

Overnight: Samburu Sopa Lodge
The Lodge is built on top of raised ground allowing panoramic views of the distant Samburu Hills to one side and El Ndonyo Keri – the Samburu name for Mount Kenya – on the other.
Thirty cottages, forming a buffalo-horn pattern, converge at the public facilities area allowing the resident wildlife to access the lodge’s waterhole at its open end.
The architecture blends in with the area, similar to the style of the local Samburu housing. Each cottage has two tastefully appointed bedrooms, each with two queen-size beds, shower and private verandah. Local materials have been used in the construction, furnishings and interior decorations. High ceilings and space ensure that the rooms are airy and comfortable. Two rooms next to the reception and public areas are designed for the physically challenged.

Naivasha
Located in the beautiful Kenya Rift Valley basin, Naivasha is a compact market town northwest of Nairobi, best known as a stopping point for spellbinding Lake Naivasha. Aspiring wildlife photographers and nature lovers will marvel at Lake Naivasha and its abundance of wondrous wildlife. Here visitors can spot wallowing hippo pods, clouds of vibrant birdlife, zebra and various other game. The nearby Lake Oloiden and Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary are great spots for those passionate about wild wonders. Shopping in the bustling town ensures unique souvenirs for mementoes as well as restaurants offering delicious local dishes with every taste in mind. DAY 6: MARA RIVER LODGE, MASAI MARA
Masai Mara
The Masai Mara together with Tanzania’s Serengeti form Africa’s most famous wildlife park, the Masai Mara National Reserve. The image of acacia trees dotting endless grass plains epitomises Africa for many, then add a Maasai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. The undeniable highlight of the Masai Mara National Reserve is undoubtedly the annual wildebeest migration traversing the vast plains of the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. It is known as the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains. Large prides of lions, herds of elephants, as well as giraffes, gazelles and eland can also be spotted in the reserve. Aside from horse riding safaris and traditional vehicle safaris, hot-air ballooning over the Mara plains has become almost essential.
